Bob's Blog Archive March 22, 2010 So, it’s been 3 months since my last blog. I know it’s too long. And people have said to me, “You need to update your blog, and why haven’t you updated your blog.” My excuse is that I’ve been caught up in the moment. Or, many moments that is. Since my last blog, I’ve done 3 trade shows (as a company we’ve done 5) and endless line reviews. I’ve hired a new customer service person (Colleen), a new rep (Steve). I’ve looked at a new computer system and attended our industry’s (The Headwear Association) annual dinner. In total, I’ve spent 20 nights on the road! It’s all good and I’ve had fun doing it. I think that’s what I love the best about the retail industry. The people have fun. I’m proud to say that I have friends all over the globe. So that’s what this blog is all about; Having Fun At Your Job. No, business isn’t easy. Yes, there is tremendous stress that goes with the challenge of making a profit. But, it all comes down to the people. They say a picture speaks a thousand words (or something like that). Well, since I got this new blackberry with a sweet camera in it, I’ve been taking a bunch. I’ll put some of the fun ones in this blog. You can see if you can match them to this top ten list of good stuff that has happened in the first quarter of 2010 that makes my job fun. #10 – Having an authentic Thai dinner in Las Vegas with Randy (who’s wife is Thai and he speaks the language fluently), Cyndy, and Mark after the first night of the ASD show in Vegas. Got to go to Lotus of Siam if you like real Thai food. #9 – Seeing our report cards and sell through reports from our customers for last season! #8 – Watching Brandee and Sandi build the furniture in our Street Wear booth at MAGIC because they think I don’t know how to use a screwdriver. They’re right (sort of). #7 – Having John Salley (yes the former Piston) in our MAGIC booth adjust the camera on my blackberry so the flash is always on. I don’t know how to turn it off, but it takes nice pics. #6 – Having lunch in Ruby’s shop, kosher style complete with the frozen Belvedere. #5 – Trading hats at the Headwear dinner with the cowgirl (is that the word for female cowboy?) sitting next to me. I knew she would look much better than me in it too. #4 – Thinking I’m cool enough to hang at all the late night MAGIC parties. I did see 2:00 am though, and was reminded the next morning that people my age don’t function on 5 hours of sleep very well. #3 – Hearing all the compliments on our new fall line. I never get tired about hearing nice things from our customers. #2 – Watching Marty in our ASD booth put on a visor with fake hair and freak out people who met him the day before, bald. #1 – Writing business, that’s what my job is all about! Hope you have fun at your job too. Here are some pictures that add to the story.
