December 1, 2011
A December blog –
The calendar says December 1st today. Can you believe it? I’ve blogged before about the passing of time. It is nuts to say the least. But you can’t fight it. So that leaves two choices, dwell on it and get depressed, or embrace it (if you can). And that’s the only way I can live. So here we go; it’s December in Michigan!
From a work point of view, December is a very busy month. It might not show in the sales totals. We’ve shipped out initial orders to most of our retail customers. Our sales in December are influenced greatly by the economy and the weather. So, while some were “bumming” to see snow on the ground last night, those of us in the clothing business are cheering. I’m hoping it stays cold and everybody goes shopping for hats and gloves.
None the less, we are very busy - busy planning for 2012 that is.
In Sales
This week I am meeting individually with all our sellers. We are reviewing our accounts: Discussing what was successful, what wasn’t, which retailers are excelling with our line and who needs help. Which retailers should we “pitch” for next season, when, and how often? We are setting goals and creating a budget.
In Marketing
Our Fall 2012 catalog is being shot this month. Most of the studio work is done. The autumn “lifestyle” shots have been completed too. We have been waiting for “Mother Nature” to deliver a little winter coloring. So, the locations and models have been secured for our final photos. Lights, camera, action; as they say.
In Purchasing
We are in final negotiation with our suppliers to secure competitive pricing and delivery requirements. It is details, details, and more details. I think I heard someone tell me that I’m not organized enough to be in purchasing. Well, if the shoe fits… So I hang out in sales and marketing where I belong.
2012 Selling Season and Trade Show Preparation
The 2012 selling season and the associated trade shows start with a bang right after the New Years Holiday. So, our show specials are being set, samples are being tagged , and travel plans being made.
December is all about preparing for 2012. What we put in this month will determine much of the success we realize next year. So, I’ll finish by restating what I started. December is a very busy month here at Broner.
Holiday Cheer
Final thoughts in this December blog. December is also the time for family and holiday cheer. This year, with the way the holidays fall, we have back to back “4 day weekends”. Cheers to vacations, cheers to family celebrations, cheers to the holidays (whichever you celebrate) and cheers to you! Happy New Year -
Thanks for supporting the Broner Brand.
